There are no J. H. (James Henry) McAninch records in St. Francis Co., Arkansas  [14] [16]

1873

Lee County, Arkansas, was created 17 April 1873, from parts of four parent Counties:

Crittenden (east of Lee Co.), Monroe (west of Lee Co.), Phillips (south of Lee Co.), and

St. Francis (north of Lee Co.). Lee County is bounded by St. Francis County on the north

and by the Mississippi River on the east (across from DeSoto County, Miss.)           [15]

1880

In 1880, J. H. (James) (Henry) McAninch was still single (first marriage in 1892, below),

age 35, carpenter, born in Tennessee, and J. H. has not been found in the 1880 census. [16]

1892

J. H. McAninch's first marriage:

On 14 November 1892, J. H. (James Henry) McAninch, age 47, married Mattie Harbin,

age 18, at Marianna, Lee County, Arkansas; they were married by W. M. Hickey J.P. [17]

Mattie Harbin (Martha? Mary? Hardin?) was born ca.1874, parents and birthplace unknown.

Mattie must have died before 1900, since J. H. is a widowed single man in 1900 [21].

1893

In both 1893 and 1894, J. H. McAninch paid Polls Taxes in Lee County, Arkansas [18]

1896

"Ex-Confederates Organize Paul Anderson Camp in Marianna" -

". . . old ex-Confederates proceeded to organize a camp in the courthouse . . . enrollment

amounted to eighty names . . . name of Paul Anderson Camp was adopted" (list included)

1900

In the 1900 census, James McAninch, a widower after Mattie’s untimely death, is living

alone, in a rented house in Richland Township (south of Marianna, south of Independence

Township), Lee County, not on a farm, and his occupation is still listed as Carpenter   [21]

1909

J..H. McAninch's second marriage:

On 10 August 1909, J. H. (James Henry) McAninch, age 60 (sic, actually 64), married

Clara Walton, age 24, both residents of Lee County, married by A. S. Rodgers J.P.   [22]

1910

After the marriage, James H. and Clara are living in Lee County in the 1910 census

McNinch (sic, McAninch) James H.  M  65  M2 (Married,2nd)  0 (years),

    (occ) (unreadable, poss. Lumberman), b.Tennessee, f.b.Tennessee, m.b.Illinois (sic);

    other census information confirms that J. H. owns his own house (it is not mortgaged),

    does not live on a farm, and is a Confederate Army veteran of the Civil War;

(McAninch) Clara, wife  F  25  M2 (Married,2nd)  0 (years),  _ children, _ living (blanks),

    b.Ohio f.b.Ohio m.b.Ohio, (occ) "none"

This is the second marriage for both J. H. and Clara (Walton) McAninch, they have been

married less than a year, and Clara has no children from either of her two marriages.   [23]
