Pike:

Tristram Pike was born 14 Aug. 1803, in North Carolina, son of William Pike (b.1782) and

Phebe (Macy) Pike (1774-1812), and grand-son of Nathan Pike (1749-1791) (see also Mary Pike,

in Grimes family section, above). Tristram married Margaret T. ‘Peggy’ Buntain(e), who was born

ca.1804-1805, in Tennessee; Tristram married Peggy on 19 Aug. 1824, in Highland County, Ohio,

and they lived there for many years before coming to Hendricks County, ca.1833-1834.

On 6 June 1834, Tristram Pike purchased 80 acres of land directly south of Samuel McAninch’s land,

and the two families became good friends and neighbors, leading to the establishment of this cemetery.

Specifically, Tristram Pike purchased the north half of the South-East quarter of Section 9, in Franklin

Township (40a, NW 1/4 SE 1/4 S9 T14N R2W, and 40a, NE 1/4 SW ¼ S9 T14N R2W) [Note 15].

Tristram and Peggy (Margaret) Pike had eight children, including

1. Phebe Pike (1827-1883), born in Ohio, who married Daniel McAninch, son of Samuel McAninch;

2. Moses B. Pike, b.Ohio; Sergeant, Co. D, 70th Indiana Volunteers; married Mary Ann Matthews;

3. David T. Pike, born 22 Nov. 1833, in Ohio;

4. John W. Pike, born 1833-1834, in Indiana, married Nancy Catherine Spaw, 11 Nov. 1858 [24];

5. Joseph Pike, b.ca.1837-1838, in Indiana;

6. Hannah E. Pike, b.ca.1840, in Indiana;

7. Margaret A. Pike (1845-1847), the first known burial in this (Old) Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in 1847;

8. Mary Ann Pike, b.ca.1847-1848 [56] [57].

In 1849, Tristram Pike was one of the five Trustees of the Pleasant Hill M. E. Church [20],

and two members of the Pike family are buried here, a daughter, and a daughter-in-law:
