An additional (Phillips) Harlan name appears on only one source list, Mrs. Ennis Johnson’s letter [2]: |

This appears to be an erroneous entry, as discussed below. There were three different Enoch Harlan’s in Hendricks County: |
|
1. Enoch Harlan (1798-1840), and his wife, Rachel (Osborn) Harlan (1797-1871), were Quakers, from North Carolina; they were the parents of John Smith Harlan, Enoch Harlan (1838-1918), and five other children. The elder Enoch’s burial record is found in the Mill Creek Monthly Meeting, in Hendricks County; Enoch and his wife Rachel are both buried in Mill Creek Cemetery, Hendricks County [5e]; “Rachel (Osborn) Harlan” (died 1871) is clearly not “Susan Phillips, wife of Enoch Harlan”. |

2. Enoch Harlan (1838-1918), the son of Enoch Harlan (1798-1840) and Rachel (Osborn) Harlan (1797-1871). This younger Enoch Harlan married Susan(nah) Elizabeth Phillips, on 5 May 1867, in Hendricks County; Susan(nah) was the daughter of Samuel Phillips (1808-1880) and Rachel (Newman) Phillips (1818-1901) (see Phillips section, below). Enoch’s wife Susan died in 1903, and Enoch died in 1918; this Enoch Harlan, and his wife, Susan (Phillips) Harlan, are both buried in the Amo Cemetery [5b], and are not buried at Pleasant Hill. |

3. There was another contemporary Enoch Harlan in Hendricks County at that time. Enoch B. Harlan, b.ca.1832-1833, in North Carolina, was the son of Hiram Harlan (b.1796) and Sarah (Hodson) Harlan (b.ca.1799). Enoch B. Harlan married Sarah A. Allee, 7 Mar. 1858, in Hendricks County. This Enoch B., his wife Sarah, and her mother, Sarah, are living together in the 1860 census (25 July 1860) [47]: |

This “Sarah (Allee) Harlan” is clearly not “Susan (Phillips) Harlan”, and is almost certainly not buried in (Old) Pleasant Hill Cemetery. |

So, unfortunately, the possible burial listed in Mrs. Johnson’s letter [2] |
