[9] “James William McAninch was born in Kentucky, 5 May 1850. On 10 Dec. 1874?, probably in Calloway Co., Mo., he married Amanda J. King. The McAninch Family Record which records this marriage has a smudge over the original year of the marriage, and what appears to be 74 written above it, apparently in the same hand. In [1860?], he is living in the household of his father, in Cass Co., Mo. In 1870, a William McAninch is shown living in the household of a John Buckner in Calloway Co., Mo. This is likely James William as the age is correct, Buckner's residence is adjacent to George C. McAninch's, and the McAninch Family Record refers to this individual as William rather than James. By 1880, he has his own household in Calloway Co., Mo, and is once again known as James W. He died 3 Jan. 1922.” – Leslie G. Saylor |

In the 1900 census, James and Amanda are found in Moody, Benton Township, Howell County, Missouri. James is a farmer, and Amanda is recorded with 7 children living, of 9 children total. Two other children not listed with the family in 1900 are Walter E. McAninch, born about 1876, and Horace M. McAninch, born Feb. 1800, died July 1881 [Note 8, line 18, above]. Another older child, Wallace H. McAninch, b. ca. 1878, is believed to be the son “Harry W.” on the 1900 census. |
