Dear Beatrice and Marjorie: |
|
|
|
Yahoo! I found it! I found Samuel’s grave. It didn’t cost but about $10.00 for my gas. That man sure wasted his money, running in circles apparently. He said it cost him $100 to find it. However, I was disappointed too. I did not find Sally or Hannah. I had hoped so much to find when they were born and died. They must be there but since Samuel’s stone was almost illegible I think they are there too, and either covered with grass or lost. I took some pictures and will send them if they are good, also the location on a map. The pictures were taken in a hurry as the pigs and cows were closing in. I wasn’t sure they were friendly. One young cow kept sneaking around behind me. If these aren’t good I will go back again and take more, and take someone with me to shoo the animals away. |

Here is what I found. |

(I am sure this was Samuel, I could make out the a and el, the initial was almost obliterated, or it may have been the Mc, the ch was still visible. All the rest of the McAninchs were there so I am sure this was his headstone). |

Isabelle, wife of Enoch G. McAninch, dau. of J. & S. Ridpath, d June 2, 1860. Age 27 yrs., 11 mos., 14ds. |

|
Polly S., wife of Jno. S. Harlan, d. Dec. 24, 1853, Age 23 yrs., 22 ds. |

Oliver, son of J.S. & P.S. Harlan, b. Dec. 19, 1849, d. Aug. 20, 1851. |

Clara, dau. of E.G. & A. McAninch, d. Feb. 6, 1865, 8 ds. (Who was she?) |

|
|
Since Sally was apparently gone by the 1850 census, because her three children were with Samuel (do you have this?), Samantha was 9 and John W. was 2, so she was alive in 1848. She must have died between 1848 and 1850. This would make her headstone about 10 years older than Samuel’s. Hannah was gone by 1861 when the estate of Samuel was partitioned, as there was a Wm. Mann, a minor, mentioned. |

Hiram D. and Charles W. were there also. |

|
On your worksheet of John Harlan – Oliver and Sarah Catherine were Polly’s children, not Arminta’s. |
|
|
|
It is so much more exciting to be able to share this wonderful find with you girls. It is more fun with someone else on this than alone. |
