This is all consistent with the multiple ‘Daniel (O.?) McAninch’ and ‘William McAninch’ articles

in the newsletter, and William McAninch named his five sons in his 1813 Will [Note 4].

B. “ca 1746” in the title of the manuscript is a bit mis-leading, since it appears that Bert Austin

is trying to connect William McAninch to a McInnish family in Albermarle Parish, Virgina, and

specifically their son William McInnish, b.27 July 1746 in Albermarle Parish, Virginia [Note 5].

C. On the ‘William’ pages, fifth son Jesse, Bert refers to him incorrectly as “Joseph” or “Isaac”

D. On the ‘Daniel’ pages, Bert Austin wrote: "DANIEL O. McANINCH FAMILY" (capitalized)

"Daniel O. McAninch, tradition has it, was the father of 11 children, I have only found 6."

(and) "Daniel O. McAninch" "Birth ca.1760" "Death ca.1818 Casey Co., Ky" "Wife Betsy ___"

(Analysis) Generally unproven, more ‘hearsay’ and conjecture:

D.1. Daniel’s name, there is no evidence for the middle initial "O.", and Bert Austin does not say

where he found the name (probably in a ‘traditional’ family story, no documentary evidence);

at that time, ‘second names’ were rare (consider George Washington, John Hancock, Thomas

Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and then his son John Quincy Adams).

D.2. re “11 children”, only eight children can be inferred from the census records, including a

fifth son (poss. Henry?) and third daughter that can be inferred from the 1810 census record

(of course, additional children who died young may not appear in any of the census counts);

D.3. Daniel born “ca. 1760” is ten years too late, although Bert Austin may have estimated this

from the 1810 census (Daniel, head of household, 1 Male >= 45 years, so, born before 1765);

D.4. Daniel died “ca.1818 Casey Co., Ky” is clearly not true, since Daniel is on the 1820 census

down in Giles County, Tennessee (why did Bert Austin publish this erroneous death claim?

There are no sources nor documentary evidence cited for this claim);

D.5. Daniel’s wife’s name “Betsy” is very believable; Daniel married Mary Smith in 1776, in

Cumberland Co., Penn., so, possibly her given name was Mary Elizabeth, known as ‘Betsy’?

E. And Bert Austin refers to Daniel McAninch’s son Daniel as “Daniel, Jr.” (probably another

‘traditional’ family story, no documentary evidence) (and the younger Daniel is also called

“Daniel J. McAninch” or “Daniel (J.?) McAninch” in the 20th century, although he was only

known as “Daniel McAninch” during his lifetime) (married Dorcas Burks, went to Indiana).
