The Western Atlantic Modal Haplotype (WAMH) is a standard set of short tandem repeat (STR) |
|
marker values; WAMH is the most frequently occurring 12-marker Y-DNA haplotype associated |
|
with R1b1a2, the most common haplogroup in Europe [37]. |
|
|
|
The Irish Modal Haplotype (IMH) is a more-specific standard set of short tandem repeat (STR) |
|
marker values; IMH is also known as the NorthWest Irish Project [38], derived for the single |
|
nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) M222 (and R1b-M222 will be covered in the next section below). |

Comparing the Western Atlantic Modal Haplotype (WAMH) and Irish Modal Haplotype (IMH) |
|
standard marker values with our Y-DNA STR marker test results (comparing genetic distances |
|
in step counts, and by the infinite allele method, IAM) shows that our Y-DNA STR marker values |
|
can be classified “IMH +/- 2” within the standard Irish Modal Haplotype (IMH): |
