[Bristol, 1881] “Bristol City [Lincoln County] is situated on the Bristol range of |
|
|
mountains, about twenty-five miles northeast [sic, northwest] of Pioche. Ore was |
|
|
discovered in 1870 by a party of Mormons . . . In 1871 the district was organized, |
|
|
the town of National City started, and a smelting furnace built. In the winter of |
|
|
1877-1878 new ore discoveries were made, . . . and the name of the town changed |
|
|
to Bristol. It has [in 1881] two stores, a blacksmith shop, three boarding houses, |
|
|
a livery stable, post office, etc., and a population of 100. It is the trading point for |
|
|
about 700 men who work in the mines of the surrounding region.” |
