The New Computer |
|

One of the constant truths about our personal computers, and their hard-disk drives (mechanical, |
|
rotating media platters), is not ‘if they will fail’, but ‘when they do fail’. Unfortunately, my old |
|
desktop computer has died, with persistent and non-repairable sector failures on the hard drive, |
|
and had to be replaced in February. Fortunately, no data was lost, and I am now ‘back on the air’, |
|
up and running on a new HP 8510w ‘mobile workstation’ notebook computer. That’s right, folks, |
|
I have joined the 21st Century, with a new notebook computer as my primary personal computer. |
|
|
|
We do keep multiple backup copies of all of our databases, genealogy files, image files, etc., so it |
|
was easy to restore all of the databases, genealogy, etc., on the new computer, and no data was lost. |
|
However, I did lose a couple of weeks of email messages in February; if you sent something, and |
|
did not get a reply then, please, send the information again, and we can follow up on it now. |
