Cyrus Clark McAninch (1849-1928) and his wife Mariah (1850-1918) are buried toward

the western part of the cemetery. Cyrus was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth [(Quiett) McAninch].

On 9 November 1870 he married Mariah Case, who was a daughter of early settlers Jacob

and Mary Case. Cyrus and Mariah had twelve or thirteen children, nearly all growing to

maturity. Buried near Cyrus and Mariah is Lenna, an infant son that died in 1883. Only two

of their children, Ebon and Oscar [Note 10], remained in Ringgold County and only Oscar

lived his life near Ringgold City. Although Cyrus and Mariah were Methodists, associated

with Mount Ayr Methodist church in later years, their respective funerals were conducted at

Ringgold Evangelical church with the Ringgold pastors assisting the Methodist pastors.

Mary Elizabeth McAninch Wiggins (10 February 1873--6 January 1903), the oldest daughter

of Cyrus and Mariah McAninch, is buried in the Cyrus McAninch family plot. She married

Drury Wiggins on 15 December 1897 at the home of her parents. [11]

Oscar L. McAninch (5 August 1871--30 June 1958), the one child of Cyrus and Mariah that

spent most of his life near Ringgold, married Ida Sullivan (22 December 1880 - 29 February 1920)

on 19 September 1900. They had five daughters and two sons, all of them surviving their parents.

Oscar spent the last six years of his life with his daughter Cleva Cooper at Fruitport, Michigan.

Oscar and Ida are buried near his parents.

William B. [Britt] McAninch (1852-1919), another son of Joseph and Elizabeth McAninch,

is buried with his wife Magdaline McAninch (1860-1923) just southeast of his parents.

William and Eliza Jane Magdaline Murphey were married 3 June 1879. They lived and farmed

in Ringgold county. They had at least four children. [12]

Finally, there remains Sherman and Mary L. Jarred McAninch and their five infant children.

Sherman and his twin Sheridan (who moved to and lived in Minnesota) were the youngest

children of Joseph and Elizabeth McAninch, being born 18 April 1868 after the family had

moved to Ringgold county.

Sherman McAninch on 18 October 1888 married Mary Elvina Jarred. Mary (1867-1919) was

born in Ringgold county, a daughter of George Washington Jarred and his first wife Abigail

Wilkerson. Mary was a full sister of Lueretia Jarred, who was mentioned above as wife of

John B. Harlan. Alert readers will recognize Mary as being in youth one of the earliest

members of Ringgold Evangelical church. She retained a deep and pious faith unto death.

Sherman and Mary had troubled lives but also their compensations. They lost all five of their

male infants. Four of them died at birth and are listed on the markers simply as “infant son.”
