Mary N. McNinch and George J.. Thompson were married on the 18th of August 1847, by Squire John Amos, near Pulaski, Giles County, Tennessee. Persons present at their wedding were: |
Martha Jane McNinch (mother of Mary) [sic] |
[Mary’s sister, not mother; Note T2, T3] |
Robert C. [sic] Reed (thought to be Martha Jane's father) |
[grand-father of Mary and Martha Jane] |
Mrs. T.E. Golden [and] Martha J. Edmundson |
[and, these two witnesses still unknown] |
Mary and George lived in Giles County, Tennessee, until 1857. Their next home was in Cedar County, Missouri. Years later, George and Mary were homesteading near, or at, Chaney, Woodward County, Oklahoma [Territory], where he died the 14th of December 1903. George had health problems after his Union service in the Civil War. After he died, Mary applied for a pension (at age 73). |

(Thompson) Notes: |
T1. “Family Bible of Mary McNinch Thompson” no longer available (lost long before 1986) |
T2. Census records confirm “Susan” as (Zeno) Campbell’s wife, and Martha Jane born 1832-1833; Martha Jane Mc. is 17 in 1850, and could not be “(mother of Mary)”, as stated in the 1986 article. |
T3. The false lead “Martha Jane McNinch, mother of Mary” could be mis-interpretation of later 1850 marriage: “Reed, Robert C., [m.] Johnston, Mary Jane, 11 Nov. 1850, [by] D. Bodenhamer J.P.”, in the book Giles County Marriages, 1818-1862, page 3. This Robert C. must be a different Reed, married 1850, since Robert’s wife Elizabeth (Myers) Reed is living with him on the 1850 census. |
