Note: I have no evidence that Samuel J. McAninch ever lived in Ringgold County. He may have only purchased the land as an investment. He owned it for more than a year. I found no other land transactions for Samuel J. in Ringgold County, other than the above three parcels of land. /Rosalie |

1860, May 11: John S. Harlan and wife Arminta (McAninch), of Keokuk County, Iowa, sold 200 Acres more or less to the heirs of Samuel McAninch for $500. Did they owe money to Samuel? (Source 2, Deed Book D, pg. 35, filed May 27, 1860; Source 3, “Transfers”, pp. 36, 44, 67, 221) |
Note: I have no evidence that John and Arminta Harlan ever lived on the land that they sold to the heirs of Samuel McAninch. Later, John S. and Arminta Harlan moved to Ringgold County, but I haven’t found that they lived there (Ringgold Co.) when they were buying or selling the above land. |

Each of the heirs of Samuel McAninch received a 1/13th share of “undivided 200 acres, more or less”. Land records 7 to 15 below show how Joseph McAninch acquired these 200 acres, from 1860 to 1873. |

(Source 2, Deed Book D, pg. 297, and Source 3, “Transfers”, pg. 37, Deed filed Mar. 11, 1861). |

Note: (#2, above) re 10a, SW¼ NW¼ NE¼ S3 T67N R29W (Sec. 3, Township 67, Lotts Creek) |
Note: This deed from Elizabeth et al also included the SW ¼ of NW ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 3, Twp. 67 (Lotts Creek), R29W, about 10 Acres. None of the deeds from the other siblings mentions this land. However, Joseph McAninch later sells this land in Section 3 (#16, below). I do not know yet how this land was included in their 5/13ths. I have found no record that Samuel J. McAninch or John S. and Arminta Harlan owned this land, or that it was included in their transactions. /Rosalie. |
