"The early home of the maternal grandparents of our subject [John Milton Craig], William and Rachel (Thompson) Crowe, was in Ligonier Valley, Penn., but as early as 1802 they came to Clarion County, when it formed a part of Armstrong County, and here the grandfather [William Crowe] engaged in farming throughout the greater part of his life, though he followed fishing to some extent. At their deaths they [William and Rachel] were laid to rest on the McAninch farm in Beaver township, Jefferson county. Their children were: James, deceased [Before 1898]; Esther, who married M. Bowl, but both are now deceased; Jane M., who married E. McAninch [Elijah] and, after his death [1840], Thomas Edmond; Nancy, the mother of our subject [John Milton Craig]; Polly, widow of Henry McAninch [died Before 1898], of Bellevue, Penn. [Allegheny County, west of Pittsburgh]; Eliza, who died unmarried; Adeline, who is the widow of Alvin H. Head, ex-Sheriff of Elk County, Penn., and is now [1898] a resident of Dade County, Florida; and Rachel, who married Stephen Miner, but both are now deceased.” |

Thus, we know that Elijah McAninch is buried at the McAninch Farm cemetery, but his wife Jane M. (Crowe) is probably not, since she married (2nd) Thomas Edmond. By similar logic, although Henry is also buried here, his wife Polly (Crowe) is probably not buried here, since she was living in Allegheny County in 1898. Relative to their husbands, Elizah and Henry McAninch, respectively, Jane and Polly Crowe were probably the same age, or younger, and might have been born in Clarion or Jefferson Co., not in Ligonier Valley. If their parents, William and Rachel (Thompson) Crowe, were already married before 1802, they were probably born circa 1770-1780, and probably died before 1870. |
