The Editor's Corner

This is an exciting issue, folks! Finally had a chance to write-up the McA/I/Ninch's in Ulster, 1800's, Tithe Applotment and Griffiths Valuation lists: found 12 in 1824-1834, all in County Antrim, and almost two dozen later, 1859-1862, in Counties Antrim and Londonderry, along the northern coast of Ireland, directly across from Scotland (20-30 miles), where the county line runs down to the sea, and eastward, along the Antrim coast.

Also, have studied the McAninch migration from Casey County, Kentucky, south‑west to Giles County, Tennessee, which leads to the conclusion that John McAninch, son of Daniel McAninch of Kentucky, moved to Giles County ca. 1811‑1818. Indeed, other McAninch's joined him there, including two sons of William McAninch [died 1813, Casey County], and possibly even his own father, Daniel! At this time, these are partially-confirmed, trial hypotheses, "preponderance of the evidence", and more research is needed.

The sharp-eyed reader may have noticed the subtle changes in the masthead above, showing surname variants "McAninch/McIninch/McNinch", and policies "Published Quarterly, since 1993. Articles solicited, Queries accepted". We were listed in Everton's Genealogical Helper, March-April 1995 issue, page 57, in their annual Family Periodical and Surname Publications list; these "top of the page" changes may get extra info into next year's list. I was pleasantly surprised that Everton's accepted it for their listing, since this Newsletter is still very much an amateur production.
